A few more:

* Big changes in "stakes," ie climbing without a harness vs with one, or making a pitch that's existential for your startup vs just "pitch #103"

* Near death experiences, often even if it wasn't very near (non injury car crashes, etc) - reflections on mortality and "true priorities" seems to be the main result, and that itself drives the change

* Death of a loved one / close friend - related to the above

* Intense but non-traumatic experiences - bungee jumping, other intense adrenaline rushes

* Achieving a long-running goal - climbing Everest, exiting a company you founded, winning a big championship - largely due to inspiring a new self-evaluation and prioritization of goals and aspirations

Therapy serves this purpose for many people. It gets them a guide who suggests mental software updates and helps them through the install process.
